Luca Bertoglio, MD

Education:

Dr. Luca Bertoglio graduated with highest honors from the University of Genova, Italy, earning his medical degree in 2003.

Residency and Mentorship:

He pursued his vascular surgery residency at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, benefiting from the direct guidance and mentorship of Professor Roberto Chiesa, a world-renowned figure in aortic surgery.

Professional Appointments:

Upon completing his training, Dr. Bertoglio secured a consultant position in vascular surgery at the Division of Vascular Surgery of the San Raffaele Hospital, Milan. By 2014, he took charge of the endovascular functional unit within the Division. In 2021, he was appointed Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at the “Vita-Salute” San Raffaele University. In 2022, he transitioned to the Vascular Surgery Division of ASST Spedali Civili of Brescia, where he currently serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Brescia.

Clinical and Research Focus:

Dr. Bertoglio’s primary clinical and research interests revolve around aortic pathology, specifically the treatment of complex thoraco-abdominal aneurysms and aortic dissections. He is a leading proponent of both open and advanced endovascular techniques (including fenestrated and branched grafts). To date, he has personally conducted over four thousand procedures as the lead operator. His recent research includes coordinating major international registries and clinical trials.

A prolific contributor to global medical literature, Dr. Bertoglio has authored over 220 peer-reviewed publications (with a total scientific production exceeding 340 works, including book chapters and conference proceedings). His academic influence is reflected in a Scopus h-index of 35 and over 4,500 total citations, underscoring his role as a key voice in the evolution of vascular surgery.
