Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Martens, born 1975, studied medicine at Hannover Medical School and did his cardiovascular residency at the Department of Cardiac, Thoracic, Transplantation and Vascular Surgery at Hannover Medical School from 2002 to 2011. He completed a research fellowship at the LEBAO (Leibniz Research Laboratories for Biotechnology and Artificial Organs) from 2008 to 2010 with a focus on cardiac stem cell therapy. In 2011 he became attending physician and staff surgeon with an emphasis on thoracic aortic surgery. He received his qualification as senior lecture (Venia legendi) in 2017 with a research track on aortic arch surgery. His main scientific interests are aortic root repair, aortic arch surgery, cardiovascular stem cell research and surgical training.
