Workshop – Supraaortic Anatomy for Aortic Surgeons

The Aortic Association is pleased to announce the first International Supraaortic Anatomy For Aortic Surgeons Cadaver Workshop which will be held from 18 – 19 June 2021 in Salzburg, Austria.

The aim of this course is to teach participants the different approaches to the neck vessels as well as the possible operations to transpose the supraaortic branches or to lay bypasses to the supraaortic branches.

The target audience are cardiac surgeons and vascular surgeons who treat or plan to treat patients with aortic arch disease. They should be either specialists or very advanced residents.

The workshops will be led by Dr. Roman Gottardi and Dr. Andreas Vötsch.

    Session 1 – Lectures

  • Anatomy of the aortic arch, its sidebranches and the neck including nerves and other delicate structures (ductus thoracicus)

  • Anatomical variations of the supraaortic branches including variations of the nerves

  • Presentation of the preparation plan for the cadaver workshop

  • Preparation of the left carotid artery and the supraclavicular LSA
  • Identification of the offspring of the left vertebral artery
